Dental implants are changing the way people live. They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth which look, feel and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved they can smile with confidence.

What are Dental Implants?

The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts which are inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts are then attached to the implant which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.

Implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

The Procedure: Dental Implant Surgery

For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves one simple surgery. For the first 2-3 months you will have a cover screw showing above your gum line. You should be able to wear a temporary denture or stay plate and eat a softer diet during this time.

For most patients, the second phase begins 2-3 months after the implants are placed. This will depend upon the complexity of your case.

After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. Dr. Le will uncover the implants and attach small posts which will act as anchors for the artificial teeth. These posts protrude through the gums. When the artificial teeth are placed these posts will not be seen. The entire procedure usually takes 2-6 months. Most patients experience minimal disruption in their daily life.

Patient Review

I've had two dental implant procedures performed by Dr. Le and his team, both under general anesthesia (my choice), with virtually no post-operative pain or bleeding. Their skill and professionalism has had a positive impact on my quality of life and I highly recommend them. For my first implant, I was initially a little anxious as I did not know what to expect. For my second implant, I had no disquiet at all and was looking forward to seeing Dr. Le again, since not only is he very skilled, but he also has a wonderfully dry sense of humor.

Patient Review

I highly recommend Dr.BachLe. I have been seeing him for about 11 years. I’ve had 3 or 4 bone grafting procedures ( can’t remember) and in a few weeks will have had 11 implants. I’ve had several periods with stitches in my mouth, some bleeding and my face has become swollen with technicolor bruising! If it had been any other surgeon I think I probably would’ve been very worried because after every procedure I really looked quite a sight and it was painful. I knew that Dr. Bach Lee was an experienced and quite brilliant surgeon so I wasn’t at all nervous about it. After the third day everything changed and healing became very rapid. I highly recommend Dr. Bach Le and his staff. I feel very fortunate that I was able to have him as my oral surgeon. Very fortunate indeed and I have nothing but praise for Dr. Bach Le’s patient and understanding staff.
