Dr. Richard Van Gemert was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He attended The University of New Mexico and The University of Southern California for pre-dental studies prior to entering USC Dental School. He graduated in 1968 as a Doctor of Dental Surgery at the age of 23 – the youngest in his class.

After practicing dentistry for 5 years, Dr. Van Gemert entered a three-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, Los Angeles County Medical Center. Dr. Van Gemert was a Clinical Instructor in both Operative Dentistry and Oral Diagnosis at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry. He published “Multiple Neurofibromatosis (von Recklinghausen’s Disease) with concurrent Micrognathia” in the Journal “Oral Medicine Oral Medicine Oral Pathology” in February 1977. Dr. Van Gemert completed his residency in June 1976.

Dr. Van Gemert established the current practice and has practiced oral and maxillofacial surgery in Whittier, California since 1976.

Dr. Van Gemert and his wife have two grand boys, Charles Thomas and Riley, and another on the way. He is active and love to ski and explore by boat. He enjoys helicopter skiing in British Colombia and exploring the coasts of British Colombia and South East Alaska by boat.
